Two weeks ago, I launched the Top Triathlon Transition Tip competition and asked you to share your favorite T1 and T2 tricks. Your ideas were turned over to our tri-celebrity panel of judges: Elizabeth Fedofsky, Curly Su, Paul Lieto, Julie Vieselmeyer and Iron Wil.
The judges have made their decision and I’m pleased to announce the following winners:
Best T1 Tip submitted by Jared:
Outside of the obvious, Don’t rush through transition, be methodical…One trick I like to do in T1 is to use dental floss on the cranks of my bike to hold them parallel to the ground with my shoes already clipped in. This will prevent them from rattling all over the place and the dental floss snaps once you start pedaling.Best T2 Tip submitted by IMAble:
Split your transition space into a bike section and a run section. You can use two towels with different colors or two small/shallow containers. Point is: physically separate the two groups. That way, you avoid scanning the area in a rush and forgetting something. For example, I have a separate container of salt pills for the run (I keep others on my bike), but I easily over look them when everything is mixed together on a generic white towel I took from the Y. If they’re on my “run” towel, it’s harder to miss them. Cuts out half the visual energy spent in a hectic area. A shortcut? Black electrical tape down the center of the towel/mat.
In addition to their 15 minutes of Internet fame, Jared and IM Able will also each receive a year’s supply of nuun active hydration thanks to our generous sponsor, nuun.
I’ll re-organize the tips and publish them as an archive article that you can bookmark for future reference if you’re looking for ideas on how to shave seconds, or even minutes, from your transition times.
Again, thank you to all who participated and a special thanks to the judges and the wonderful folks at nuun for making this possible.
Find your edge and dance upon it.
