Musings

Endurance Files: December 22, 2007

  • Coach Steve Ilg has been a long-time advocate of the yogi squat and I’ve become an evangelist for it over the years. Now T-Nation author and former member of the Naval Special Warfare community, Craig Weller offers a more Western perspective on this most beneficial posture in his article “The Third World Squat.”
  • Alwyn Cosgrove has me thinking this morning with his article on Training for Fat Loss. As multisport endurance athletes, are we taking the same approach he describes when it comes to our nutrition? To put this in our context, should we eat differently if we’re training for speed versus endurance? I don’t know the answer, but it is worth pondering.
  • Coach Paulo Sousa has an interesting take on the “rest week” concept that is often advocated by many as a mandatory part of their training cycles.
  • IronMom offers a bit of swim training technique with an exercise you can do in the gym to “groove” the catch on your stroke.

  1. I think that your diet should be different if you are training for fat loss or if you are training for sprint performance. Your workouts should also be different.
