The ADD way to keep up with the Tour de France

I admit, my desire to watch the Tour de France this year is rather prosaic. Really, I’ve tried to get excited about watching a bunch of skinny men in lycra go zipping through the French countryside on a bike that cost enough to cover the orthodontic hardware for both of my daughters.

Swim mama swim!

A belated congratulations to Dara Torres for yet another remarkable “un-retirement” from the sport of swimming. In case you’ve been under a rock for the past few days, 41-year-old Torres kicked some ass during last weekend’s U.S. Olympic trials and made the U.S. team. Beijing marks her fifth time representing the U.S. at the Olympics.

Is it finally OK to call someone fat?

My family was recently at a pool party to celebrate the end of my daughter’s first soccer season. As I looked around at the kids frolicking in the pool, I was shocked to see that out of the dozen or so girls on the team, 10 were obese. I’m not talking about having a little extra baby fat, I’m talking double-fisted Twinkie-eating-hand-me-another-grape-soda-mom kind of fat. Lest you think me a physique snob, my wife, who is very sensitive about these matters, was the one who pointed out that one girl looked like she was pregnant. When are parents going to stop killing their children?
