Turning inward

Last night I went for my first run with a small group from the local running shop. Everyone was very friendly and it was a loosely organized run. In other words, “Here’s the map, go for it.”
I had choices of the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6-mile loops. All were on the same course [...]

Las Vegas Triathlon goals

I’ve been playing with the numbers a bit over the weekend.
Moving up from the bottom of the pack to a top 10 finish for my age group in my next race will be a challenge. Throw in the fact that I’m jumping from sprint distance to Olympic distance, and well…I have my work cut out [...]

Oh man…

If you want to see what courage and tenacity is about, watch this movie.

When I showed this to the Head Coach tonight, I had to leave the room. Even though I had seen this a couple of times already over on Chris’ site, I knew I was going to have another severe “allergy” attack if [...]

Getting in touch with my inner lazy bastard

Well, it’s been nearly three weeks since my last race and I’m still in “recovery” mode. In other words, I’ve devolved to my true lazy-ass self and have used travel as my excuse. Over that period, my two cardio sessions have been a 15-minute trail run in British Columbia and a 15-minute walk in the neighborhood [...]

Running where it’s green…and fishy

Sorry about dropping off the face of the planet again. After the Mountain Man Triathlon in Flagstaff, we had to take a four-hour drive back to Vegas then hop a flight the next morning to the Midwest to visit family for a week…then back to work for me for two days before heading to British Columbia [...]

I miss freshness

Well, we’re back from vacation and thoroughly enjoyed seeing family and the Midwestern lifestyle. Perhaps the true highlight of my visit, other than seeing loved ones, was eating fresh blueberries.

You see, in Las Vegas, the produce that eventually finds its way to us, sucks. A pint of half green/half fuzzy blueberries that we would buy [...]

Race Report: The Mountain Man

I had started to write this race report before the results had been posted. I was feeling pretty good about my performance in my second race of the season and although I was no threat to the podium, I felt I was moving up.
I had also lost some weight and was feeling lighter and stronger. [...]

Crapper yoga

On the way back from Flagstaff and crossing Hoover Dam, we came across two statues.
Amanda said, “There’s daddy and Steve Ilg doing their crapper yoga!”
Kids.

Early report from the Mountain Man

I’m on my way back to the Motor City to visit family and am sitting here at the Vegas airport catching up on a few things before sitting on my already numb ass for another four hours.
I’m still waiting for the race results to come back. Perhaps the delay is due to a snafu on [...]
