The book that was supposed to go around the world, did. It has now returned to it’s temporary home in Las Vegas and is being shipped back to the author, Dan Millman. Learn more about where the book went and what people thought about “Wisdom of the Peaceful Warrior.”
Life in the arena is not for cupcakes.
“This world offers only two vantage points from which to live your life: the arena or the stands. Life is relatively safe in the stands. Not so in the arena. You can see more in the stands, but experience more in the arena. [...]
This morning while making my blog rounds, I came across this great post from Craig Weller of Barefoot Fitness. Weller talks about the moment when you face your personal Waterloo and includes the following quote a Navy SEAL gave to a group of students during his retirement ceremony: “Something is out there waiting for you [...]
Professor Randy Pausch, the Internet phenomenon and accidental inspirational lecturer, finally succumbed to pancreatic cancer yesterday at the age of 47. In August 2007, he was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and was given six months to live. His YouTube video, “The Last Lecture,” was recorded one month after his diagnosis and has been seen by more than 10 million viewers. You need to set aside an hour to watch this.
If you are dissatisfied with yourself at the back of the pack then you will have the same feelings in the middle of the pack. There are a lot of people chasing self-esteem at the races – I doubt you’ll find it in your racing (you could find it in on your athletic journey, though). [...]
It’s a bit outdated (from July 2007) but I love it. This is from the Navy Times’ coverage of a memorial service honoring three Navy SEALs who were killed in action in Iraq.

Athletes in endurance sports, with the exception of cyclists, are generally a gregarious bunch. We’ve been conditioned to race only against ourselves and the clock. Do YOUR race and don’t worry so much about the competition. But…imagine how cool it would be, just once, to see some real intimidation tactics play out just before the gun goes off.
Let’s talk about beauty in motion. This has nothing to do with endurance multisports, yet everything to do with balance, both in the figurative and literal sense. Today’s subject is the incredible Sofia Boutella. I first saw Sofia on the Nike Women promotional DVD in 2006 and was blown away by her moves. Here’s your bit of Sunday eye candy from an amazing athlete:
I was sent this video early this morning and was blown away. Not only at the spirit of this young man, but by his friggin’ work ethic that would put most of us to shame. Dustin Carter had both arms and legs amputated when he was five years old due to a rare skin infection that nearly cost him his life.
