I need your help…I’m launching a new series in January in which I follow a group of competitive amateur runners, cyclists, triathletes, mountain bikers, adventure racers and climbers through their preparations for their “A” races in 2010. My goal is to provide a realistic view of how people fit training and racing around family, jobs, school, etc.
It has been a while since I’ve made any updates and today, that changes. After my lower back screw-up, I’m FINALLY getting back into the swing of things and have totally revamped my racing/competitive season and need your input on what to do with this blogzine.
“I’ve always gravitated towards the development of physical fitness. The body is the physical manifestation of one’s state of mind, so a strong mind equals a strong body and vice versa. Being fit, healthy, strong… whatever you want to call it; it’s so much more than some superficial aspect of life. It’s one of the most important things there is.”
Bill Ramsey is a top sport climber in his late 40s who regularly out-performs climbers half his age. He is also a highly respected philosophy professor who spent nearly two decades teaching at Notre Dame before coming to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to enjoy the area’s great year-round climbing opportunities. More relevant to us, he is the creator of “The Pain Box” theory. Definitely worth a read.
Since reading about the lifestyles of the pros is usually educational, sometimes entertaining, and rarely practical, I am far more interested in learning more about Jane and Joe Lunchbucket. You know, the multisport athletes like you and me. One such noteworthy age group triathlete is Jaakko Hiekkaranta of Finland.
Since it’s been a few weeks since I’ve provided any updates, here’s the latest of what’s happening on the home front, with training and this blogzine.
In the world of endurance multisports, there is no shortage of interesting profiles on the top athletes in marathon, triathlon, cycling, you name it. Since most of us have to squeeze our training in between full-time jobs, family or school commitments, I want to showcase those amateur athletes who can juggle it all and still be passionate about their sports. One such remarkable young woman is Dr. Jodi Thomson.
Meet multisport athlete extraordinaire Rachel Cosgrove. Not only is she a top age-group triathlete, she recently set an American deadlift record for her weight class. Today, we talk about Rachel’s background, her approach to strength training for endurance athletes and just start to get into her views on nutrition.
Tomorrow we get to meet a remarkable woman. One who embodies what I consider to be the true multisport lifestyle: endurance, power, and a great set of abs. Here’s just a little teaser of what she can do…
A hearty, and belated, congratulation goes out to Steve Ilg and Joy Kilpatrick on the September 11th birth of their beautiful baby girl, Dewachen Catherine Ilg. I foretell a great multisport athlete is in the making. She has two talented, athletic parents and is living in God’s country of Flagstaff. Woe to her sea-level [...]
